孟德爾頌的「無言之歌」鋼琴曲集共有四十八首，這些音樂並不是為音樂會演出所寫的，而是為了十九世紀業餘愛樂者在家中自娛的功用所寫，然而這其中也有像「紡織歌」或「忙碌的蜜蜂」和「二重奏」這樣內容和技巧都極適合在音樂廳中演出的重要作品。這些音樂的長度都不超過五分鐘，孟德爾頌以歌曲的型式來處理這些音樂，而不將它們以器樂曲的方式對待，是讓這些音樂迷人而不教人生厭的主因，巴倫波英這份錄音是這套曲目歷年來最精細迷人的版本。
