在 法國男高音阿藍尼亞與九零年代以三大男高音接班人之姿出現在樂壇前，法國已經很久沒有國際馳名的男高音了，許多法語歌劇的錄音和演出，都仰賴墨西哥籍的多 明哥和西班牙籍的卡列拉斯完成，法國男高音的斷層現象，再加上大都會歌劇院長期被義大利裔和猶太裔總監和指揮所壟斷，法語歌劇在北美沒有空間，也造成法語 歌劇一度遠弱於德語和義語歌劇，但是隨著阿藍尼亞的到來，一時之間，長久被人忽略的法語歌劇有了新希望，也因此有了接下來他一系列的法語歌劇錄音作品，這 份古諾的羅密歐與茱麗葉，就這麼幸運地應運而生。九八年灌錄這份錄音當時，他才剛和羅馬尼亞女高音喬琪歐結為連理，兩人情濃意蜜，也反映到他們的歌劇演出 上，再加上普拉頌道地的法式指揮，不會像一般熟悉德、義歌劇指揮那樣，無法理解法國浪漫大歌劇的情趣所在，也因此造就了這份非常經典的錄音。
