布烈頓：彼得．格林 Britten: Peter Grimes 維克斯，男高音 / 柯林．戴維斯指揮柯芬園皇家歌劇院 Jon Vickers, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Colin Davis 《彼得．格林》這個角色，是布烈頓為他的終生伴侶，男高音彼得皮爾斯所創作。皮爾斯為主攻藝術歌曲的輕男高音，音色較平，變化不大。1967年美國紐約大都會歌劇院卻大膽啟用當時以演唱華格納聞名的英雄男高音強．維克斯來演唱此角。一開始招致許多疑惑且難以為人接受，連當時還在世的布烈頓也公開表示反對。但維克斯版的《彼得．格林》很快就獲得樂迷的認同，他們認為這種較強烈的風格，唱出了格林受苦的靈魂，甚至投射成等同於奧泰羅的心情。維克斯是少數能演、能唱的華格納英雄男高音，不同於大多數華格納男高音在舞台上往往如銅像一般不動如山。維克斯不僅在演唱方面毫不遜色，肢體語言和臉部表情也都十分生動，並以揣摩角色深入，演活受苦主角而著稱。他演唱的《參孫》、《奧泰羅》、《齊格菲》等角都備受肯定，《彼得．格林》也不例外。更為人讚嘆的是，即便不在舞台上演出，他的聲音在錄音室裡也能傳達出生動的戲劇性，因而成為卡拉揚心中歌劇電影《奧泰羅》的首選。在這份1978年的錄音中，維克斯將其十年間演唱《彼得．格林》無數次的心得帶進錄音間，留下了音樂生涯最精彩的紀錄。
